Reddit is teaming up with Polygon and announcing a new NFT-based Avatar Marketplace.
Reddit has informed its plan to trade NFTs, leveraging its fairly new Avatar Builder to allow the design and selling of avatars to its community. Collectible avatars are now open at r/CollectibleAvatars for a limited time to a limited number of early access users. The avatars will be obtainable on Polygon, the blockchain that has DraftKings NFTs on it as well.
This is not Reddit’s first involvement with NFTs. Earlier this year, the company started testing a feature that would authorize you to set any Ethereum-based NFT as your profile picture. this came just a few weeks after Twitter released a similar function. Last year, Reddit released limited-edition NFTs established on its mascot Snoo, dubbed CryptoSnoos.
Reddit has joined a long list of companies that are testing with NFTs. After launching NFT support on Instagram, Facebook recently ported some of those segments to the blue app. After venturing its own digital art collection in May, eBay attained NFT marketplace KnownOrigin in June. In May, Spotify began to test a feature that authorized some artists to promote digital collectibles on their profiles, and link-in-bio startup Linktree brought out new features for creators like unlockable links for distinctive NFT collection holders.
